I Need a Break…

Ming keeps making me write these Japanese lessons! I need a vacation… (rofl)

I haven’t even had time to blog about all the anime and manga I’ve been watching and reading. That’ll come, I guess, after I study for my tests.

Ice Skating Rinks, Buses, and an Old Lady

Today I went ice skating at Sharks Ice at Fremont (hint hint where do you think I live?). I was to meet Rachel at the rink by 1:30, when the rink is open to the public. I got there by car, however, at 1:45. My brother tagged along; I warned him not to whine about “I CAN’T SKATE” and “TEACH ME”.

I went to the counter for tickets and bought three, one for each of us. (Technically, each of us bought one, since Rachel paid me back afterwards xD) We waited like seven minutes and twenty-three seconds or something for that stupid skate rental dude to appear at his station. After getting our skates, which were really hard to tie, we got into the skating rink. Rachel and I immediately started pwning the rink, while meh older bro failed at it. Simply put, he sucks. :P Keep trying, bro!

Rachel and I ice skate pretty well. But I’m better. DUH. (just kidding) Well, according to her she fell down at least six times, while I never fell. Ice skating takes only a few hours of repetitive trying, falling, trying, falling. It’s like learning how to walk all over again. I tried to skate with the music, but it was too hard.

My older brother, on the other hand, well….

We skated for like two hours and got tired. I bought a medium Pepsi for $1.75 including tax (yes, I remember these things). My brother said that he’ll go outside and walk or something. I didn’t see him after that until I got home.

I walked with Rachel to the bus stop (which she forgot where it was, even though

Finally, a way to automatically extract the subtitles from anime/TV/drama episodes of MKV format! *looks up at the sky with arms wide*

When I try to convert MKV (Matroska) files into MP4 format for my iPod touch, my converter cannot recognize the type ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha) subtitle stream and will not include them into the converted file. To make it work, I had to manually extract each subtitle file, convert them into the more normal SRT format, and then my converter works.

However, today, after slaving over using mkvextractGUI to individually extract the subtitle stream from each episode of an anime series, I decided to write mkvBatchextract.exe to do the work for me. The program has only three general requirements:

Download: Trinomial Factorization Utility

When I was in eighth grade, our Algebra I teacher made us factor trinomials all the time. I was so annoyed at doing this, especially for trinomials with larger numbers that I decided to write a program for it:

After being satisfied with this utility, I printed out the source code and showed it to my teacher, who prompted exclaimed “Very nice!” to my surprise. I expected a “Wow, Joshua, now you don’t have to think” response XD

Here’s what the source code looks like (bugs since then have been fixed):

And I’m Back!

Sorry the inactivity! I spent too much time on watching anime, doing homework (I have to do that), and procrastinating! (I have to do that too!)

Anyways, first off, *angry eyes* to Mr. 「lailo86」 on Crunchyroll for REPLACING my subs for the Lucky Star OVA with DIFFERENT one. What is your problem?! Sure, I don’t [BLAH BLAH BLAH insert rant here]

Sigh. Actually, I wrote this four paragraph ranting about the dude who doesn’t respect video uploaders. But I don’t want people with different opinions shouting at me, so I won’t go there. It’s cuz I’m cool. XD

I’m not dead, if anyone thinks so. I’ve actually already written 90% of the anime debut part 2, but I haven’t published it yet. Reason? I’m lazy sometimes. :P

So don’t leave me, guys! *tries to do a moe pose* (eww)

Clubs

When I went to sign up for clubs, I really had no idea of which one(s) I wanted to join. So the end result was that I joined lots of clubs. I’ll describe some of them.

Chinese Chess Club

Wait. There’s a Chinese chess? Of course there is. This (really) old game is basically similar to Western chess, with pieces moving and capturing like rooks and knights, with several exceptions; the king can’t move out of the 3×3 square, the cannon (yea, there’s a cannon) captures by jumping over one piece, the horse (knight) can’t move if it’s blocked in front, blah blah blah. Not that I’ve never played Chinese chess before, but I think I’m sort of bad at it. xD

Go Club

Oh mannn, another strategy board game; I don’t feel like writing about go, so why don’t you just head over to Wikipedia? Oh, and I’m pretty good at this game. :P

Impromptu

This club is basically a music club that plays at all sorts of places (to raise money, I guess). Maybe this will be fun.

Not Enough Psi Energy; Construct Additional Pylons

Yes, when you’ve got the templars moving out and the reavers into the shuttles, you know that your zealot bombs can counteract the siege tanks and let your templars finish off the marines. Then the dreaded occurs: you need more pylons. You try to warp them in as fast as you can, but the terrans are already striking back. You just wished you could sit back.

The first days of school really aren’t that easy. With all the instructors giving the forms to sign and donation requests (more like forcing us to donate), there’s a whole lot of organizing to do. I have to make sure my mother knows what she’s doing when she signs the forms, and I had to sort out tabs for my three different binders, two of them for individual subjects. I’m finally done.

Time to enjoy the weekend. Oh, and I can’t wait for Starcraft II.
